Engineering Research Framework Visioning Summit

The US engineering community comprises world-leading professional societies and associations, universities, national academies, and a robust industrial research and innovation base that has advanced engineering knowledge to drive national economic prosperity, enhance the national security, and sustain global leadership in industries that improve the quality of human life.

This community would benefit from a mechanism for identifying and addressing research challenges and opportunities emerging at the interfaces of engineering disciplines and between engineering and other disciplines. Moreover, there would be particular value in having the community identify “high risk, high pay off” areas for engineering research.

In recognition of these realities, the NSF Directorate for Engineering (NSF/ENG) will support the Engineering Research Framework Visioning Summit to define approaches for bringing together the US engineering community to identify new research directions that have the highest potential to impact society.
